Just Drying My Hair Out And Talking Games

This was imported from my old Tumblr blog posts.

As the title says. I’m waiting for my hair to dry after bath before sleeping. But my mind’s all about games for now to take away that I have a coming deadline on my work, so here we go.

I already pre-ordered Super Smash Bros Ultimate last 11.11 because there are nice coupons on Lazada SG that basically lowered the price to about near 60 SGD, and also I want to start playing an online competitive fighting game that’s fun.

Currently, it’s about a week and a half before I go smashing some people online. And about the same amount of time for me to be careful on YouTube as some Mexican assholes have sold the game early, and an asshole knows no nationality or decency. Out of respect to the developers, I’d avoid dignifying leaks by not giving them any views on YT and Twitch. If I were Nintendo, I’d go scorched earth on these fools – hell, I’d even go medieval on their ass.

So far, I have 11 cartridges and 7 digital games bought for my Ninty console. It truly is a magical device despite its obvious limitations. I can play a full-console edition of Mario on a plane, and whip angel butt on my bed. And in the coming months and 2019, I plan to buy these games no matter what:

  • Katamari Damacy Reroll (2018)
Of course I have to buy this stuff. I missed KD on PS2 because, well, priorities. But it’s wacky, it’s weird, and it’s a blast to play. I’m getting some demo warm-ups before the real thing releases (next week or so).
  • New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe (2019)
This is the port of the game that critics say was a good game in a failing console. And I’d love to play it – the looks alone sold me on it.
  • Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (2019) I’m a sucker for good Metroidvanias (I have Hollow Knight downloaded, still on the main story course), and this one is helmed by Koji Igarashi. I met him briefly at ESGS 2016, and he seems very enthusiastic about his game. It’s clearly a labor of love for his craft, so high chances it will be a nice game.
  • Final Fantasy VII, IX, X-X2 (2019)
These are clearly ports, that is a given. But, I’m not ashamed to admit that I tend to replay games that have sentimental value to me. And JRPGs that combine a good story with easy-to-grasp battle mechanics, and has immense leisure play lifespan (what I mean is that it can take me a good three-to-five months to finish if I played at a leisurely pace), and these games did take me a while to finish, and I had a blast with each of them. Except X-2 – I played it after finishing FFX on my PS4, but at that point my bad depression at work last year kicked in and I lost a lot of desire to play, so I parked it.

Now these below are my wish list games – some I’d love to buy now, some later, but I’m really really having second thoughts. And all of the games I bought so far in Switch, I never had any second thoughts in buying. My rule is, if I have second thoughts about buying a game, I will park it for a few months, and when another game sale or big discount on it comes along, I will think about it again. As long as I have second thoughts, I’m holding off buying that game.

  • Starlink: Battle for Atlas (2018)
The NSW version has Star Fox characters in it. STAR FOX! I haven’t played Star Fox yet in any Nintendo console (even my SNES Mini’s Fox games are untouched), so it’s my primary reason. It’s even on sale right now! I’m nearly touching my credit card for it. But probably until Wednesday I’d sleep on it. I still have small second thoughts, and we’ll see if they resurface on the last day of Nintendo’s eShop sale.
  • Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age (2019)
It’s also a port of the FFXII game on PlayStation. Despite those freaky abs of Vaan, I still kind of like the game’s idea as a whole, but currently I’m not sure if I’d buy the game.
  • Pokemon Let’s Go (2018)
Still thought of pre-ordering it, but I had to choose Smash over it. Now, I’m still on the fence about it – sure, it’s a nice Pokemon game, but the price point is still a stickler for me. Probably next year it would go have a discount, so I’m probably going to buy it then.
  • Fate/Extella Link (2019)
Hm… it’s a nice game and it appeals to me as a new type of game to have on my console, but something in the back of my head is telling me to hold off for now.
  • Ys VII: Lacrimosa of Dana (2018)
I probably will buy this once I clear Xenoblade Chronices 2 (plus Torna) or a massive discount hits it on eShop. My main concern is that I already have 2 big JRPGs on my console, and 4 more next year, that I might be overloaded with JRPGs, and I’m not even done with XC2 and Octopath Traveller yet.
  • Mario Tennis Aces (2018)
It’s Mario with the skills of Roger Federer on magic mushrooms. That says it all – it’s wacky but appealing to me. But the price point is still a stickler – once a good discount comes to town, I’m snapping it up.
  • Any No-English-Version Visual Novels on Nintendo’s eShop Japan
I’m holding off buying them until I learn a good decent amount of Nihongo. It’s still on my Minor plans next year. For scale, Major plan next year is to go to Japan again for vacation, and Moderate plan is to be able to save more than 10K SGD even with that vacation plan, and put it towards my long-term retirement savings.

Also, I have already subscribed to Nintendo’s online service. And so far, OK with me – I can save my games on the cloud now, so I can finally be at ease. Also, the Nintendo NES games they have on offer so far, I like it. I can play Twinbee again! Also, sometimes I play the other games selection, just to know some of them more. Played Gradius for the first time – and I kind of enjoyed it. Sometimes the old games still have that playability, and it’s amazing how long it has remained that way.
