Hah. It seems that lately rain is ravaging this country. There has been numerous news of landslides, accidents, road mishaps, and those sorts of things that can at least make you lose your appetite.
Not to mention the politicians. They got this retard that would speak out against his fellow retards. What a schmuck. And I don’t believe the crappy notion that the government did not coerce this soldier to speak out. As far as I know, the Arroyo government has silenced about 4 or so people to not to speak against them. And another schmuck got himself in hot water in the US and the Embassy’s getting all souped up. Including the Philippine Embassy in Lebanon. GMA’s got herself some nice airplane accomodations every single time she goes out of RP but she couldn’t even provide instant fly-fly accomodations for those stricken countrymen of ours. Well, politicians really dig these.
But something infinitely worse came along with the rain. Not hail, not politicians, and definitely not a Geri Halliwell hit song.
Brown-outs.
Brown-out (adj.) – something to describe a situation where the electricity connection suddenly was terminated due to several reasons.
But here in the Philippines, the “several reasons” would be a big big bulls–t. They are very frequent lately, and they come in the worst of times. While I was going to sleep. While I’m downloading a Rip Slyme w/ Quruli single. While I’m recharging my rechargeable batteries. While I’m composing a blog entry. While I was previewing an ECW match. While I was in the CR relieving myself. While I was going to eat supper. While I was studying for a CS106 exam. And so on, and I’m not quite done yet with the list.
I wonder if the electric wires of Meralco was done with straw and the posts made of coco lumber. Not of sarcasm, but I dunno what the hell is wrong with their electrical implementations. The storm is not based in Metro Manila, yet just a bit of a gale or a storm and the wires go haywire.
But wth. I am in a Third World country. I’m kinda amused with our latest billing. We had several brownouts this month and MERALCO still dishes out the same bill amount we had last month. Like we’ll be paying for some 0 volts. What would I expect better from an electrical company partly owned by the government? Nothing much except their ability to supply the volts alongside with a fee equally as shocking.
The rainy season also brought out the worst and the best with it. XD
WORST POINTS OF RAIN:
1. I have to bring a coat and an umbrella with me.
2. It’s hard to catch a bus to UST in a rainy day.
3. And it is as equally hard to catch a ride home.
4. The water brings out the muck and the mud, alongside with these entrepreneurs and sellers making cash out of the people’s fear of the mosquito-bred diseases.
5. As aforementioned, brown-outs. None the worse.
6. Staying at home, re-reading manga and old editions of Readers’ Digest.
7. And even if you get out of home, you return, 100% a bit wet somewhere in the body. Most usually the knee part up to the shoes.
8. Most people’s tempers are quite high on rainy days. I keep my cool, at least.
BEST POINTS:
1. Suspended classes. Nothing classy and good about it, but the satisfaction that you don’t have to see that particular “jurassic teacher/s” face that day can give you something, at least, to smile about.
2. Previewing still-unlistened-to mp3s. Quite the time-spender, eh? But, it’s a good idea to lie in bed and listen to hidden treasures that are waiting to be uncovered. Imagine you’re Indiana Jones.
3. Sleeping. It’s very cold, and dark, but sleeping comes easier in a night where the coldness is natural. And, usually, I favor sleeping without my blankets, which kinda freaks my mom out quite a bit. But sometimes I get out of the bed to snatch a blanket from the closet when I know it’s getting more colder.
4. Eating hot food. My dad is a very good self-made chef, and he quite makes it a point that he makes piping-hot dishes when the rainy days come, so at least I’m thankful for a delicious hot meal.
5. The rain discourages my neighbors to ditch their karaoke habits. These people abuse their voices at days where they feel like it, singing tunes till night and keeping me infuriated throughout the duration. Brownouts, thankfully, eliminates these great pretenders’ penchants.
6. Daydreaming. Even if the skies are gray and the thunderclaps a-comin’, nothing prevents anybody from keeping their minds somewhere out there in the stratosphere flying with the birds and the airplanes.
7. Watching anime all night. Anything more better than having chips and mocha at your side while watching MADLAX at night?
8. Candlelit dinners. It’s brownout, but having dinner while candles light up your meal with your family, it’s like a romantic thing. Except it’s love within the family.
And while I’m typing this up, the TV is reporting some sort of crapmunch. It’s again about that goddamed soldier-turned-rebel-turned-reformist. Another regarding the so-called “spy”. And so on.
OK, so I admit I am quite harsh with my earlier statements, but I know it’s the tip of the iceberg. Or should I say a mountain of garbage.
Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, as my father says, was a duly elected official, and we should, at least as citizens, respect her and help her lift our country to better heights. Her State of the Nation Address was quite the eye-opener of her efforts to improve our country’s economy. Quite right.
But how of the people? Did she care to even address what the people really want? The bottom line is that she only addressed the country and its global voice, but not the people’s real voice.
Nothing much with her efforts. But what’s wrong with the picture? It’s like looking at Leonardo Da Vinci’s “the Last Supper” painting and seeing the apostles picking boogers out of their noses. Compare that to seeing GMA’s picture.
Honestly, the best manga I read so far was Takaya Natsuki’s “Fruits Basket”. Next in line would be Kubo Tite’s “BLEACH”. And third would be the “School Rumble” manga series. I’m quite childish when I pick what manga to read. But sometimes I choose some real “serious” manga like Ai Yazawa’s, or something like “Meine Liebe”.
Currently? I am reading “Fullmetal Alchemist”.
I am starting to realize now that the CS subject I took will be very gory. I mean, like bloody hell.
I’m not saying it’s not manageable, or possible to finish, but what I am trying to say that it’s like that old military training module. You know, belly crawling with barbed wire rails. If you raise your ass, it would prick you. That’s what I mean.
Now I’m in Third Year college, things has become really really messy. Probably the Lebanon shenanigans would be the only one to beat this school “warfare”. I can’t even blog regularly.
*ticks off fingers* I now have Programming Language concepts. Operating System Structures. COBOL. File Organization. But hell, still, Math kicks my ass. I hope that “geezer” won’t be around the 4th. Hehe.
But currently, I’m in love with my COBOL Laboratory subject. Not only it kinda gives me the urge to finish early and leech some Internet time, but I found out one thing for sure: I fare better in the Lab than in the Lec (Lecture class). I’m more inclined on “application”. So if they test me on a written and a practical examination, one thing is for sure; I’ll fare better on application.
So, gomen ne, forgive me if I don’t post much regularly or my mp3s go like 5 days late. *heaves* This life is taking it’s toll on me. But I live on a promise that I won’t fail again, and I’m a man with a gun pointed at his temple. I have to keep this.
I’m still lagging far behind on my mission to self-study the Japanese language.
Since my schedule has these wide 1-hour gaps, oftentimes just called simply the “loafing hours”, I bring along my Japanese-English/English-Japanese dictionary plus some magazines and written notes I have in my bag. I have two notebooks: what I learn in manga and anime; the other contains some real rules regarding Japanese sentencing and word forms. So far, if I rank it 1 to 10, I’m still at 3. I’m not yet even close to learning all the basic kanjis. The most basic kanji I can draw is “ai”, which kinda ticks me off. Another is the symbol for “chikara”, which usually appears on most Japanese-made games and anime. *counts off fingers* I kinda recognize about 15.
On the other symbolisms, like hiragana and katakana, I recognize them almost instantly as them, but the problem with me is that I know little by heart. But I’m trying my best.
The wording takes a bit of time, but by watching subbed (subtitled in English) anime and decoding raw manga, I learn it. Like enjoy and learn at the same time. Hee hee.
Trivia: most airconditioned buses in Metro Manila are from Japan. So they have these telltale signs, like warning signals in large red “abunai” screaming words. Also, in addition, some placards and some reminders that the new owners of these buses did not remove. Since in first year, I already decoded these placards. The most favorite of mine is the smallest of them all that, in simple words, says “please press button to stop”.
But frankly, I’m ashamed that even if these buses’ owners got these in working condition from Japan, they did not care to even dress it up fit for customers. As is, as was. Except the opening left doors.
I’m wondering if I should post manga too with my mp3 rotation, and I’ll think about it.
Extra for the day:
47. The watch I am currently wearing right now is a stainless steel Festina Chronograph. I call him Chrno (Chrono without the first “o”). The fun thing about my watch is that its “second hand” (the one always moving every second) can function as a timer and spin continuously like a spinner wheel, which I think is cool. One of my friends joked on me that my watch is like the time machine in the manga of Ken Akamatsu, “Negima!”. The disadvantage is that if I wear it on long hot sweaty trips it ends up stinking worse than my dog on Saturdays.
48. I do believe that my two sisters are identical copies of each other even though their age gap is wide. They both like the same things. My younger sister looks the same as my other younger sister (older than the youngest) when she was her age. They argue the same way – and end up the same way. They both are hecklers and linecrossers. But both has the same endearing qualities I liked and both argue and make up the same way as twins do, which is fun to watch.
49. I have principles I follow when I copy assignment/homework from my classmates. First, I have to ask for it twenty or so minutes before the time of submission. Then, I have to ask how he/she did it, then I try answering it myself using the guide. Like, I copy but I learn at the same time. Also, I do not copy all the time. I only copy what I could not really answer by myself. But mostly, when I study, I get the answers by myself, which gives me great satisfaction.
50. I am particular when I buy dresses for myself. I favor t-shirts. I favor denim & jeans. But, I have my own sense of fashion. The t-shirts, either branded or unbranded, must be wearable at all times, in heat or in cold. The t-shirts must be durable and can withstand multiple use. It can have some Asian influence in the design. The sign on the shirt must be distinctive. And the pants must be simple yet tough. And I’m wild on experimenting with clothing with colors and combination.
So there. The 50’s done, so not much of a regret.
OK. That would be it for now.
Ciao!
