A Gentle Life Returns To The Planet

This was imported from my old
BlogDrive blog posts.

Whee. My new mp3 player delights me a lot these days.

I finally ditched my Discman temporarily in exchange for an mp3 player. I chose the cheapest one (I am particularly meticulous and critical of high pricing in these items, and I’m not brand-conscious or such) probably cost around 1200 Php. It’s 128-MB, so it can contain, up to my estimation, about 24 songs average, with medians of about 4.5 MB + of one mp3.

I chose 128 MB because 24 songs are just right enough for my one-hour-each travel time from my home to UST. And the mp3 player has a sturdy-built casing, which fits my peculiar night habit.

Oh, that? Night habit… I usually play some of my favorite songs before I sleep, and in my Discman’s case, I usually leave it turned on even if I’m asleep (I fall asleep after some few songs without me realizing it… the songs are not of the cheesy ballads like Frank Sinatra’s or Perry Como’s – those types of s**t are used for insomniacs who do not respond to the strongest of sleeping drugs), and when I wake up, I still hear some songs, but peculiarly, it always ends up to L’Arc~En~Ciel’s… one instance it ended up on “Blurry Eyes” or sometimes “Spirit Dreams Inside”.

So, I have music before I sleep. The mp3 player fits in, but sometimes I leave it beside me, and on mornings I wake up to find the mp3 player under me (I slept over it) :3

The only downside of this contraption is that it needs those small AAA batteries. I tried to find the cheapest rechargeable mp3 player in the market, but it exceeds my figure of “cheap”. So I have no choice.

I had to buy those GP and Panasonic AAA rechargeables.

In all, it was contentment. While on the way to school or going home, I’m on cloud nine listening to my favorite songs. And it’s a very pleasant feeling for me. Like I’m floating on air or something.

Sidenote: What music do I listen to? Depends on what is available at my mp3 collection. It’s hard to denote:pick good songs from 3500+ mp3s, right?

Right now, I have:

1. Rakuen Baby – Rip Slyme*
2. Breathe Easy – Blue
3. Yakusoku no Chi ~The Promised Land~ – FFVII AC OST**

Mostly are just J-Pop (or Japanese Pop). I especially liked those with asterisks.

With regards to the FFVII AC entries…well…I have a penchant also for those soulful and a little dark-themed STs (soundtracks), started when I started listening to Enya in 2000. By then, I already collected quite a lot of songs like these ones. The #3 entry is just pure vocal creepy fun to listen to.

I especially liked Nobuo Uematsu’s re-hash of One Winged Angel.

The surprise package was FREENOTE. I just ordered their album “Introducing the popline according to FREENOTE” and it was definitely a new popline. Especially ReChannel and Bokurarimizu.

Anime songs… who doesn’t like them?

But I’m not just tuned in to J-Pop. I also like Franz Ferdinand, Slipknot, Rammstein, Coldplay, Keane, Robbie Williams, Blue, etc. In OPM, E-Heads, Mongols, Rivermaya, Hale, Cueshe, Brownbeat All-Stars, Orange and Lemons, Parokya ni Edgar…

But, as my list says, I definitely most like J-Pop.

I never listen to Mandarin except Faye Wong’s.
