BGM: [Ai (Chuuseishin)] OST Excel Saga
Here I am… on a hot Saturday afternoon in a PC shop without a name.
It’s the 2nd of October, the very last day of a normal Semester here in UST. Being a greenhorn Freshman, it’s very relieving that this is the last time (I hope so) I will see some of my teachers teaching in class. Some of the said their sweet goodbyes, some hinted signs of returning, and still some tend to feel as if they are our eternal teachers.
Next week, I just hope I can still blog with you guys… the Finals’ test is like the litmus paper of UST to see who are the fat and the thin. And how close am I to the point of immediate strangulation of subjects which seems to perplex my mind even as I sleep.
Beside me are my notebooks, already worn-out from the thousand times I opened, repopened it and threw it out in frustration. It’s in sharp contrast with my Japanese study notebook, shiny and clean, since I put it in a separate place whereas my notebook endures pitting it out against my heavy books.
Beside me also is Ragnarok players…which reminds me of one thing I wanna relate to you all who never watched a Philippine-dubbed Raganarok: The Animation.
DON’T WATCH IT.
Why, you ask?
First: the opening theme song of the RP Ragna sucks. The version in Japanese will do, it’s more charming, sweet-sounding, relieving, soothing and harmonious, unlike the Flub Four (of the Star Circle assholes) with their disparaging, embarassing version of “We Are The Stars”. Please castigate me if you will have the gall to do so, but, try downloading the mp3 of the Japanese version (find one) and comparing it with the Flub Four’s version, you will find the Japanese version more appealing. Like GMA for not messing up with the HXH theme songs. See? Intruders like them who destroy good music…they do SUCK.
Second: Let’s put aside the bad publicity and the horsewhining RP-ised theme song. The anime’s good, in drawing, innovations, detailed and complex. That’s undisputable, but, it would never catch on with the hardened /gg-ized Ragnarok players of this great era. Why?
Try buying the Ragnarok-Animation VCDs at Virramall in Greenhills or in somewhere in P. Noval, Espana, Manila, and see why. It’s already in the country way, way long. June! It’s 4 months. I already watched all of their released Japanese episodes with the English subtitle, borrowing from my great anime master Kenneth D. , and I would say…just buy it.
The anime’s excellent, but in the grubby hands of ABS… well…
The Philippine-dubbed Ragna anime will totally destroy the show. Tell it from my experience.
And, third, the story is a bit unappealing but still Ok for the real otakus like me and others like Resti and K. Its’ range is for the people with the RIGHT minds to watch it, like you, my tagboarders and sane people. It’s not suitable for kids below 10, (EXCESSIVE VIOLENCE), and those who don’t know what it is. Know it first.
Hah…
Let’s get back to action. In UST, we do get the usual things that is very like UST, old and venerable. Nearly 400 years and UST’s still a part of the Philippine microcosm. Like when you say, Diliman, some will think of UP-D. Say Taft, and you see LaSalle (Congrats to the DLSU for shooting the Tams down…at least it’s just part of the game’s breaks.). Say Ateneo. Say Morayta. And if you say, Espana, well, it’s of no doubt USTe.
Try finding Assumption College or PUP in the Philippine vocabulary. Zilch.
In UST, we have the 4 corners of Lacson, Dapitan, Espana, and P. Noval, which has full of foods that satisfy the Thomasian appetite. We don’t have LaSalle’s malls, we don’t have Atenean footbeats, and certainly no UP’s minimalls, but we do have plenty of places to go and eat. It’s just a matter of urban wisdom to find which is better for you.
Inside, we have the OLDEST schol symbol EVER in Asia…the Arch Of The Century. I passed it several times, and goddamn, sure I felt like old.
Behind it is the Lovers’ Lane, the version of UP’s Sunken Garden.
Here are the usual serving, folks. Enjoy it while it’s fresh.
