BGM: [Invoke] by TM Revolution
One word for the anime: extraordinary. The Gundam SEED anime series was worth watching and skipping sleep.
It was, in all, 50 episodes of pure unadulterated robot punk. Full of angst, feelings, emotions and other frailities of human nature is there, just like my favorite .hack//SIGN and Liminality.
SEED is about a conflict which started between the Earth Alliance [aka Naturals] and Zaft [aka Coordinators], which started because of economic troubles was clearly undecided. The two sides had no other choice, and war broke out. 11 months after this war started is when the timeline of Gundam SEED all begins. Heliopolis; a colony which is a ‘neutral’ colony was dragged into the war while Earth hid their secret mobile suits here. ZAFT mobile suit force raids Heliopolis and thus capturing all but 1 of the Gundams. There, two close childhood friends, Athrun (or Asuran) Zara, son of Chairman Patrick, and Kira Yamato, a science college student dragged into the complicated chaos of the war.
Coordinators, as the ZAFT people are called, are genetically-enhanced humans capable of extraordinary feats, like being too talented or too good, or simply, designed to be better. Naturally, the Naturals, humans opposed to their own creations, became jealous and tried to label them their subordinates. But, the main protagonist, Kira Yamato, even if he’s on the Earth side, is actually a mysterious…COORDINATOR.
His childhood friend Athrun is in the other side of the war-torn countries, a ZAFT commander.
Kira was seen as a child of wonder, for he can manuever and reprogram the Gundam’s OS…at his very first try. The Liutenant Ramius, amazed and suspicious, held them under her control, as Kira’s friends saw the very secret weapon Earth was protecting from the ZAFT forces.
The plot surrounds between the two friends who are forced to kill each other but they don’t even want to. Sacrifices were made, people were killed, lives were destroyed, and many things have changed dramatically.
In the end, it was the commander Rau Kuruuze who was behind the plot of it all, and Kira was revealed as the most important Coordinator. Cagalli, Kira’s twin sister, ends up with Athrun, and Kira takes Athrun’s ex-fiancee Rakusu Clyne.
IT WAS WAY COOL…
Just watch it. Maybe you’ll find it as the way I saw it. It’s too good for the above-average standard.
Next time, I’ll try to watch the UCs, the earlier Gundams. Lemme try!!
I’m currently trying to self-study Nihongo (or Nippongo, Japanese language).
I have here three books I study at school at spare times where there’s no exams or lunch. Heh. Maybe I’ll end up like…um…nevermind.
Gomen nasai, I’m just interested in the language. So that I can read and watch the Japanese anime fansubs’ translations my way. So that I can understand without any fuss over broken choppy English.
While I was watching my current anime lineup – Ragnarok: The Animation, Gundam SEED, and .hack//Sign, I noticed that they were mostly subtitled. Fansubs it is. They spoke Japanese, and the English sub is below the screen.
Oh, then I just had the idea of learning Japanese! Chikushou (DAMN).
The idea just came naturally to me while watching. Some of the traslations in English are choppy and stinging. If Madame CQS (our English-perfect Journ teacher in high school) was watching one, I assure you, she will go nuts correcting the mismatched sequences.
I dug in into my credit card (my mom gave me one extension of her card so that I could use it for groceries and some other trinkets I want) and went to the nearest National Book Store to buy something that would help me understand the puzzling language.
Oh, while I wrote this blog thingie, I have in my lap two books, the Basic Japanese Nihongo by Yukihiro Shimamura, and Japanese Hiragana/Katakana by a certain PERSIAN GULF publication.
It costed me at least 170 pesos just to know the basics.
I soon learned some good things (and while I watched the animes, I could understand some of it! Yay!!) and some downsides in this new thingie.
For instance, the “su” at the end of some Japanese words like “desu” or “ikimasu” are pronounced “des” and “ikimas”. Laugh at me or not, I am just getting the hang of this thing.
Then, “deshita“, the past tense of the “desu” thing, is pronounced “desh’ta”.
The accent is of two levels only, high and low. You musn’t mismatch some words’ pronunciation or you’ll end up being castigated verbally.
Basic greetings. I KNEW THAT. Ohayoo gozaimasu is “good morning”, *but* if you are speaking to lowly inferiors, you can omit the gozaimasu. Konnichiwa is “good afternoon”, konbanwa is “good evening”, hajimemashite is “how do you do?” and doozo yoroshiku is “I’m glad to meet you”.
I’m getting the hang of this thing.
Then, starting with the basic Japanese sentence. (Subject) wa (Complement) desu.
So, if you say anata wa X-san desu, you translate it into “You are Mr. X”. Take note, the -san at the end of the names pertain to two sexes.
It may take me a while to be fluent in this new thing, so the basics is just going to be fine. Maybe an estimate of 6 months will do for now, I just want to watch my anime CORRECTLY.
Oh, the animes are usually available at the Greenhills malls that Edu Manzano raided recently. The animes aren’t included in his rampage.
NEXT TO WATCH: All Naruto, Chrono Crusade, InuYasha, Gensomaden Saiyuki, .hack//Legend Of The Twilight or Dusk, Stellvia, and Excel Saga. It’s a lot, but something I can still save for… or just borrow from Kenneth D. to watch at home.
