BGM: [The World] by Emily Bindinger, .hack//SIGN OST

By the way, playing Yu-Gi-Oh in school kinda rocks, especially when the dreaded Math teacher is stuck in Espana traffic (calculating how he can manage to compute himself out of pandemonium while we contadict his chances by playing YGO over decaf latte) and we are playing anything that is of fickle interest.

Kenneth brought some ORIGINAL (yes, Kasilag and Amorsolo fake card users, original! flashing!) cards with terrible effects that could ruin your chances of upsets and sheer amateurish escapes. We played a threesome (with Kasilag wannabe…YES, HE’S A WANNABE DUELMASTER GianCarlo)…Gian won. That sucks. He retains his deck while me and kenneth had to lose some of our deck cards. Guess amateurs have aces up in their underwears. We played the GUESS part, which we pick random cards out of a deck of 90. Even if Kenneth got Ultimate Blue Eyes White Dragon and I got three Mr. Volcanoes…Gian still edged us with sheer ass ability.

I watched Kenneth’s (again!!) CDs, this time, as I mentioned in my previous three blogs, .hack//Sign.

IT TOTALLY ROCKS. Don’t include the giggly Kim Possible trailers and the Spongebob sequels.

The series is all about the game “The World” where a gamer named Tsukasa (the sorcerer in the picture) is trapped inside and he can’t log out, like Sieg in Liminality. He finds out the lair of Hewick’s AI child, Aura. Hewick is called Harrold Hyuek in the show, possibly a Japanese mistake. There, he was guided by Maho, a neko-AI. Neko means “cat”. Blessed with inhumane abilities in the game, he soon crosses paths with the Crimson Knights of Subaru and Kinkan.

An introverted young Wavemaster with unusual game powers, Tsukasa finds himself at the heart of a mystery about the .hack world. Unable to leave the game, he is pursued by other players because of his abilities and at times resorts to invoking a strange Guardian to protect himself.  His encounters with Mimiru are awkward because of their different personalities.

Mimiru is an extroverted Heavy Blade who travels “The World” in search of adventure. She is undeterred by her difficulties communicating with Tsukasa and does her best to help him when she can. Mimiru can often be found in the company of Bear.

Sora is a self centered unscrupulous Twin Blade who is always looking for a way into action. His initial encounter with BT ends in his player killing (PK) her. He is not trustworthy and annoys many around him, especially Mimiru, who only tolerates his presence when absolutely necessary.

A Heavy Axeman, Subaru spends most of her time managing the Crimson Knights and receiving reports about activity on the server. She takes a less strict approach to matters than the Silver Knight, emphasizing that true enforcement is the prerogative of the CC System Administrators. She gradually gets to know Tsukasa and becomes sympathetic to his dilemma. Though generally reserved and cautious, she can be quite forceful when commanding the Knights.

BT is a clever manipulator who seems to spend more time interacting with players and listening to gossip than exploring “The World”. It is not clear where her loyalties lay, but she inevitably becomes involved in the drama surrounding Tsukasa, making convenient alliances along her path toward discovering the truth about the fellow Wavemaster.

Bear, a friendly Blademaster who knows many players in the game, is thoughtful and generally willing to assist those in need. After meeting Tsukasa, he becomes curious and increasingly involved in the mystery, both in “The World” and offline. He frequently lends his sword to help Mimiru in her adventures.

A former member of the Crimson Knights, Kurim, a Long Arm, used to frequently visit the “The World”, but has only recently returned after a long absence. He is generally heroic but does not take the game too seriously, simply enjoying the action that swirls around Tsukasa. Crim and Subaru have a complicated relationship owing to unspoken incidents in their past together.

The story really began in the start, where Tsukasa can’t log-out. Due to his mannerism and pessimistic-loneliness personality fusion, he soon finds himself alone too often. But when the rumor of the Key Of The Twilight soon reaches his ears, he reluctantly goes with Bear and Mimiru on a party. Bear contacts Helba (previously known in Liminality as an expert hacker) to go to Net Slum, a private server of Helba’s (hey, this isn’t Ragnarok) to find out the situation’s worseness.

It turns out that Tsukasa was part of The World’s idea (the game has its own mind, and knows the worseness herself – Sora calls her Oba-chan – that when Aura is born, according to the Broken Man – Hewick himself – the game’s purpose will be gone) to bring the master plan into chaos. But when Tsukasa and Subaru, due to mixed situations and Kinkan’s overload of demands, fall into an intimate relationship, things just turned a turn for the worst.

When they did go to the Net Slum, Bear carried a secret: Tsukasa, even if he is using a male character, is actually a comatose teenaged girl on a hospital near the house where Tsukasa is found lying three months ago. He talks to Tsukasa in private, asking her permission to be her surrogate parent.

They gathered in the Net Slum with Helba, until the World’s slinging Guardians attacked, with Maho protecting Tsukasa up to his last breath. Tsukasa, Mimiru and Subaru, after falling into a trap, found themselves in a place where the World hid Aura after removing her from her birthplace. Sora protects them, but ends up losing his life. Returning, Helba found an enemy code forcing an entry to her server, and does the drastic way – log them all out and delete the server, thus deleting the bad side of The World.

The end is anti-climatic but too dramatic. Tsukasa and Subaru met in the real world just in front of the holspital where Tsukasa is discharged and Subaru is just going to be confined. Subaru is in a wheelchair, and Tsukasa runs to her.

*oww*

I liked it too much, when I get my hands on a CD burning drive, I’ll burn it into my private collection.

*next to watch?? F.L.C.L. and .hack//Dusk or Legend Of The Twilight*
